An individual who laced candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two young males who were between nine and ten.
The defendant was detained after eight children and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a young boy.
Ruben was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the court.
She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
The defendant engaged in a "candy game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the next day.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor stated materials including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the police about his suspicions.
She said the man proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she continued.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson called the police a second time.
She stated the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
